Welcome to Love to Sing and thank you for your interest in taking lessons with Alexis Anthony.

For Piano - go here

Alexis has been singing for over 15 years and has been classically trained and has both live performance and recording experience.

Alexis emphasizes learning classical techniques and basic music theory to build and strengthen your voice and then will work with you on whatever type of music you are interested in - whether it be opera, country, pop, jazz etc.

As a teacher, she feels it is important to find out what kind of music you like to play, while at the same time teaching you practical exercises that will help you understand music and how it is written.

She also has performed in many bands, choirs and theatre groups and in front of many types of audiences.

Alexis writes original music and you may hear some of it here.

6) Why should I choose Alexis as an instructor?

Alexis wants you to ENJOY your experience and not view music lessons as work, but as a fun and rewarding time that will enrich your life and help you love music even more.

She eagerly works with all skill levels and believes ANYONE can learn to play music with the THREE P's: patience, practice, and persistence.

7) What methods of payment do you take? Cash, Check or PayPal

8) What materials do I need to begin?

For voice - bring a bag that contains:

  • bottled water
  • journal and extra pens
  • 2-3 songs on CD that you would like to learn - preferrably with no vocals on it (karaoke or accompaniment only)
  • voice recorder - this is optional but HIGHLY recommended - as you can record your lessons and practice and listen to it afterwards. You can find them at any electronics department.
  • A positive attitude!

For guitar - bring all of the above - except bring printed lyric and chord sheets as well (Alexis will tell you more about this during your first lesson)

9) Can you record my song in mp3 format?

YES! Alexis can record you singing or playing (or both) and can email the song to you that night!

10) Is there an extra fee for that? No - this is just an added benefit to help you learn faster!

11) Can you teach me in the evening after 6pm?

Alexis currently does not offer evening classes - but there are other FANTASTIC vocal instructors that she trusts and can refer you to - please email her: learnmusictoday@yahoo.com and she will be happy to help you find someone.

12) How does a songwriting class work?

Alexis believes EVERYONE has a song inside them and will help you realize just how attainable writing that first song - or finishing that one is.

Some activities during a songwriting session:

  • Learning about different types of song structures
  • Creating melodies
  • Basic and advanced music theory to help you understand how a song is written
  • Relaxation and writing techniques to get you in touch with your creative side
  • Creative listening and analyzing songs and genres to help you pinpoint what elements you would want to include in your songs.

13) Do I have to play an instrument to write a song? No!

14) Will you help me get over my stage-fright?

Alexis has many techniques to help you focus, relax and ENJOY your performance and goes over many of these techniques in her lessons.

From Diego V. a former student:

"I liked her knowledge of the content, her positive and constructive criticism, feedback and her professionalism!"

From Joe M. a former student:

"Alexis: I really liked how you diagnosed, almost immediately, what my problem was with incorrect breath support. Even though fixing my incorrect technique seemed a long way away to me, you encouraged me and gave me an idea of how long you thought it might take me and it removed my worry about it. I've never had a lesson from anyone where they took notes and wrote down for me what I had to work on for my next lesson. That is excellent for me because I'm a bad note taker. I also like your energy and enthusiasm during the lesson. It shows that you truly love what you do. When people love what they do, they usually do a really good job."

From William W. a former student:

"I have been taking voice lessons with Alexis and I have to say, I never thought learning how to sing could be so much fun. She knows how to teach young people without having them feel like it's a chore. I always look forward to having our next lesson. She is not only knowledgable in what she does, but is patient, nice and knows how to have fun. Which are characteristics of a great teacher. "

From Caren C. a current student:

"Alexis - it has been quite a journey - but a great one! I love how each session begins with stretches. I never knew how important it is to get the body loose in order to use your voice.

Your are full of great knowledge about singing! I love how you explained what was happening to my throat when I use my vibrato. All the visuals really helped me to understand and improve.

My voice and confidenct has come a long way over the months...thanks to you!! "

From Landon L. a former student:

"You were able to teach me so much material within a very limited amount of time without overwhelming me and pushing me away from wanting to learn the material.

The second was that I attained a working knowledge of how to write simple chords on a piano after knowing nothing about reading or writing music. I also enjoyed listening to you play your music and enjoyed having your help in putting some music to one of my lyrics. Thanks again for everything and I'll likely be back!"

From Rainya M. a former student:

"The voice, the relaxation, the feeling, putting it all together. The music director and the producer were also in the room -- they were also very impressed and I've auditioned for these two people many times in the past.

I want to thank you SO MUCH for all that you did you help me get to the point where people that know me very well as an artist and a person could be impressed by my performance. I know that more than just technique, you helped build my confidence in what I could already do so I could just go and do it."
