| A well known but criminally under-publicised band who have been on the UK scene for the last 2 1/2 years. Lyrically insightful and sonically rich. Not too cool, not too specific, the kind of music that makes you move. They have been almost ignored by beady-eyed music hacks desperately seeking the next 'saviours of British rock', but speaking to their fans leaves little doubt that here is a band capable of producing something truly great. Not ones for sensitive outpourings, wailing guitars, muffled bass, or deadpan drums, PLANETMAN have developed their own style of KUNG-FU ROCK - ever evolving and hard to beat! Punchy and aggressive, while maintaining general appeal, their unique mix of dub-punk-rock combined with the sheer energy they put into their performance is more than enough to incite a crowd! High-profile gigs abound these young hopefuls have really come into their own. Confident without being cocky, bold without being brash and an absolute delight to behold. Though the music industry gives them little exposure, it's the interest they generate from fans and other bands that keeps this Birmingham based 4-piece doggedly determined to succeed. With help from the likes of Hope of the States, Tribute to Nothing, Sam Roberts and Electric Eel Shock they have raised their profile by landing choice slots like the opening night of the N.M.E. World Disorder Tour with The Future Kings of Spain, Ludes and My Red Cell, a double show at Liverpool's famous Cavern Club, and dates at other sought after venues like The Hard Rock Cafe and The Garage in London which also pulled Bitzcore's latest signing Japanese Rock-Monsters Electric Eel Shock into the audience (!) This summer saw them blitz the festival season with a Saturday night headline at Run To The Sun in Newquay, the Leeds Underground Festival and the Birmingham Festival amongst other shows ranging from pubs and clubs to campsites and skateparks. All of this makes PLANETMAN a superb contender for your "ones to watch" list for 2005 and we haven’t even mentioned their self-financed 2003 EP release and their 2004 album "Zombie Rock n' Roll" from Producer Jamie Watson (Idlewilde, Snow Patrol, The Vaselines). So whether you like reggae/ dub/ rock/ roll/ punk or just sweat don't overlook the unique musical style, awesome stage presence, and original charismatic quality that is PLANETMAN. |
