From Alex: "What's my music like, you ask? I could say pop, rock, sorta country, but what does that tell you? I think you'll get a better idea if I say Liz Phair meets Shawn Colvin ... driving, sarcastic, angsty, bitter, speculative. And in case that's too dark for some of you, please note I do have one happy song. It's only one, but it's a start.
I'm a singer. I've been singing since I was sixteen, went to school for it (Manhattan School of Music), studied classical and jazz and have worked in that area since then. I sing new music mostly, cross genre, tricky, challenging stuff. I've sung with various orchestras, gone on tour a few times. You can look here if you want to know about all that. Not really relevant to the instant discussion as what I write is quite different from all that; I mention it only to explain the presence of an acoustic bass in the band and the strong vocals.
Sometimes I play guitar. I play piano but you'll probably never see a piano on an Alex Sweeton gig as they're really guitar tunes. I have a big love for the guitar. But I'm open.
I perform regularly at the Bitter End with my band and at various area clubs with either my band or with solo guitar. I'm regularly featured on the internet broadcast, RadioCrystalBlue. I'm very excited about the release of my EP, Invisible Girl, which features six of my songs and will be available on November 10, 2004. "
