Brent Ferguson

Brent Alan Ferguson was born in Waco, Texas on August 8th, 1985. After giving up sports in high school, Brent picked up the guitar in his sophmore year at the age of 15. He taught himself in the styles of blues, classic rock, and flamenco for the next three years.
In 2002, Brent started performing with friends at the local Starbucks coffeeshop for nearly a year. In 2003, Brent was accepted to the Guitar Performance program at University of Texas at San Antonio. Also in this year, he learned bass while performing with a local church band. Brent also performed that year with a heavy metal group called SiR, and played at the Blue Hills Inn and Spa for another year.
In college, he discovered the styles of classical (in which he studied) and jazz which became love at first listen. Brent studied classical guitar with Dr. Matthew Dunne, and Professor Mike Richter. He has attended classical guitar masterclasses with world famous artists like Pepe Romero, Judicael Perroy, and Michael Chapdelain.
In 2004, Brent switched major emphasis to the composition of music, and he studied with Dr. David Heuser, Dr. James Balentine, and James Syler.
Brent has taken masterclasses for compositon with well-known broadway composer Jason Robert Brown and Micheal Lowernstern. Brent also picked up piano very fast in his first few years of college. Brent has learned how to teach from an old acquaintence, Mr. Derek Baker, and has taught private lessons for five years.
Currently, Brent is in his last year of undergraduate studies, and plays bass with local rock band Right Road Lost and The Elle Band with fellow teacher Alexis Anthony.
He also plays piano with the UTSA Jazz Ensemble, who won best jazz ensemble at the Hill Country Jazz Festival. Brent specializes in the teaching of compositon, jazz/rock piano, and all styles and levels of guitar and bass.
As a teacher, he feels it is important to find out what kind of music you like to play, while at the same time teaching you practical exercises that will help you understand music and how it is written.
